Recently, GCL Silicon was invited to a seminar to express its views on the development of China’s alternative energy industry. Below is a summary of the speech:
After three years of development, GCL Silicon and other PRC solar companies are now relatively well-developed and can compete effectively against other global solar companies. GCL Silicon’s polysilicon production base in Xuzhou, Jiangsu province has successfully commenced production and has successfully introduced world-class advanced technologies in order to mass produce high-quality and cost-efficient polysilicon while at the same time minimizing environmental pollution. GCL Silicon’s rapid development has helped to reduce China’s long-time reliance on imported solar materials from dominating European and American suppliers. Now GCL Silicon is even evaluating the possibility of entering solar energy markets in the US and Europe by leveraging on its scale advantages.
GCL Silicon also gave an overview of the overseas solar energy markets (mainly the US and Europe) and their respective solar related policies, and highlighted the importance of solar energy as a clean renewable energy. GCL Silicon recommends that the Chinese government implements more favorable policies to support and promote the collaboration between upstream and downstream solar companies. Domestic enterprises should take the lead in capitalizing on the opportunities arising from the development of the solar industry in both Europe and US. To promote China’s position as a global leading photovoltaic country, the government should encourage export of China’s photovoltaic products. This will help drive the development of domestic auxiliary industries to support the growth of the solar industry, so that the solar industry can become one of the driving forces for economic recovery. In addition, solar companies should cooperate with each other to promote the adoption of solar energy. GCL Silicon proposed a novel concept of promoting solar energy as a substitute for peak load power generating units.
In order to weather the global financial crisis and promote sustainable economic development, GCL Silicon gave the PRC Government a detailed proposal on how to promote adoption of solar energy with the plan to ramp-up within three years and achieve significant scale within ten years’ time. GCL Silicon hopes that the government can initiate more policies to support the solar industry such as favorable tax policies and granting of financial support. GCL Silicon also suggested that the authorities in charge of approving solar foreign investments should be of lower ranking so that the time required for approval can be shortened. Moreover, GCL Silicon suggested that the government should standardize project bidding procedures and allow foreign investment enterprises to enjoy the same treatment as that of local solar companies.
